Sangha creates exceptional teas and herbal infusions carefully selected for quality and taste that manifest a deeper level of health and wellness.
Sangha is a small tea bar with a big passion for both tea and community. So much even, that "Sangha" means "community" in Sanskrit, an ancient language of Hinduism. We believe that together, tea and community can benefit mind, body, and soul.
Our mission is to not only sell delicious tea, but also to educate and inspire all ages about the health benefits of these delicate yet powerful leaves. When it comes to our love of tea, you might say that we are "Old World Meets Hippie Flair!"
MEET THE SANGHA FAMILY: Alisa, Mary, Elsaphina, & Abraham
Alisa started her journey into the world of libations while making drinks behind a bar. After 14 years of working in the restaurant and bar industry, she decided to change direction and dive headfirst into the world of teas. During her second year of managing a tea house in Chapel Hill, she crossed paths with Jeremy (the founder of Sangha) -- they shared a mutual love of tea and meaning of community. Alisa and Jeremy's shared passions led her to pick up the Sangha torch to continue what Jeremy started.
Morgon: "The Tea Guru"
For Morgon, tea started as a medicine but quickly revealed its own culture and world. In 2011, Morgon apprenticed in San Diego under two phenomenal tea masters. He was trained in traditional Chinese tea ceremony and how to classify and grade tea. He decided to depart on his own personal voyage in 2014, landing him in Anchorage, Alaska. The cold weather was great for sharing the love of tea, but eventually it was time to spread his passion elsewhere. Through Sangha, he has found a home that is growing with no limits. Beyond tea, Morgon explores all things life has to offer, from rock climbing to language learning. The world is so large and he hopes to experience as much as possible within his lifetime.
Sangha offers high-quality, mostly organic teas responsibly sourced from around the globe in a variety of flavors and brews. From Camellia Sinensis (tea leaves containing caffeine) and Tisanes (herbal tea leaves with no caffeine), so young and old alike can enjoy our offerings.
In addition to traditional hot and iced teas, we also offer premium grade matcha in yummy concoctions like Coconut Matcha Latte. And the cup runneth over with an abundance of heath benefits in every sip. Premium matcha is hard to find and even harder to find prepared properly, so whether you’re a purist looking for that bright green frothy shot or a radial craving new and different preparations of the versatile powder, we have what you need.
And if you’re looking for something totally new, check out our “Spicy” Iced Teas, refreshing sparkling sodas mixed with the goodness of tea.
We will be cultivating seasonal tea boxes, and artisan created individualized tea boxes for those who want a more in-depth approach to their tea service and experience. And for anyone looking to expand their tea knowledge, we will also be offering tea classes.
Sangha Teahouse Lauches "Tea Trike" - Indy Week - March 17, 2017
"Looking forward, Burns plans to sustain the pop-up nature of Sangha by continuing to participate in farmers markets including the soon-to-be Blue Dogwood Public Market in Chapel Hill, and bringing the trike to Durham.
In the meantime, she is focused on melding the original intent of Sangha with her own family-friendly twist. Having a wife and two kids of her own, Burns says being able to share this new experience of running her own tea business with her family has been the most exciting part. She even points out that her five-year-old daughter knows what matcha is, and that’s exactly the point."
Say Yes to the Chef - WCHL - March 17, 2017
